In vitro study | Benzydamine is structurally unrelated to corticosteroids. The effects of benzydamine may be mediated by the prostaglandin system. The drug may affect the formation of thromboxanes and alter the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, which can be used topically to achieve the desired dose. Benzydamine shows a stabilizing effect on the cell membrane, inhibits human neutrophil degranulation, and inhibits platelet aggregation. Benzydamine may affect tissue biochemistry related to local mechanisms of inflammation and pain. |
In vivo study | Benzydamine significantly reduced the incidence of Postoperative Sore Throat (POST). At 6 hours after extubation, the incidence of POST was 17.0%. Injection of benzydamine hydrochloride at the ET orifice is a simple and effective method to reduce postoperative morbidity and POST-morbidity. |
